7 Days Kilimanjaro trekking Machame route
Day 1 Machame camp
We will drive you to Machame gate in the early morning and introduce you to your guides, the cook and the porters. The trail first leads through a dense tropical forest, followed by tall grasses and giant heather. Later we’ll be walking on a ridge, down to our left Semira stream, to our right Weruweru stream. This day’s goal is Machame Camp for dinner and overnight. We will have climbed 6-7 hours and up to 3000m that day.
Day 2 Shira camp
The third day’s climb runs alongside a long moraine beneath the glaciers on Kibo’s western slope. We will stay over night at Shira Camp. We will have climbed about 6 hours and up to 3840m that day.
Day 3 Baranco camp
A steady 6 to 7-hour walk between lava massifs takes us up to the Lava Tower pass (4750 m.) for acclimatization. The way takes us along the Grand Barranco, an immense canyon. Passing waterfalls fed by streams coming from Kibo, we proceed to Barranco Camp where we stay for dinner and over night. We will have climbed up to 3940m that day.
Day 4 Karanga camp
The cliff that we got to climb this morning looks imposing – the porters use to call it ‘breakfast’ when they’re joking. But the route doesn’t present any difficulty. It’s a 6 to 7 hour walk through valleys from Baranco to Karanga camp for hot lunch, dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Barafu camp
After breakfast in the morning we start moving to the base camp Barafu for lunch dinner and overnight. It will take 3 to 5 hours walk
Day 6 Summit – Mweka camp
We get up at midnight and after a light breakfast we are ready for the way to the summit. We take on the steep slope leading to the summit through Ratzel and Rebmann glaciers. At dawn we arrive on the rim of the crater between Stella point and Hans Meyer point. Just one more hour to the summit we will reach it along a path that’s often snowy. Congratulations! You made it to Uhuru Peak up to 5895m. Let’s enjoy the moment and the view at sunrise before we start to descend. Our place for overnight is Mweka Camp.
Day 7 Mweka gate – Arusha
We descend from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate where you will be rewarded with a certificate attesting your success at climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s time to say good bye and go back to Arusha.
